I don't think you can legally donate prescription medication - it is illegal for anyone to take medication prescribed in another's name. Heed the advice of the nurse above in properly disposing of the medication.

More importantly, I am sorry for your loss.

Doctors, nursing homes, etc. cannot accept the medication. Some hospices will. Your father's doctor might be able to help you with this. If the doctor can't or won't, look up local hospices in your yellow pages and give them a call. Do not give it to a private individual. If no one trained in administering medication will take it, you need to dispose of it to avoid potential problems for you and anyone else. It might seem like a waste, but think how you would feel if someone misused it with tragic results.

what ever his condition was i would either contact that organization, and they would direct you to either take back to the pharmacy depending on how old the medicine is which is the bests thing cause it does state not to share with anyone his meds were specifically prescribed by him for his weight and his size and his condition, all in oneit is a nice jester but you have to think on someone else taking the wron dosage, unless it were at some sort of clinic.

If they are unopened sealed bottles of over the counter medications like cough medicines or aspirin, you can use them yourself.

If they are prescription medications, you should not "donate" someone else's prescription medication, you should dispose of it. Crush it, put water on it to dissolve and pour it in the trash can, NOT down the drain or toilet because it will contaminate the water supply.

No one will want his open medications anyway. Would you accept pills from an open bottle??? If they are narcotics please return them to the prescribing MD or pharmacist for proper disposal or dispose of them as I instructed, please do not place them whole in the trash as someone could find them and abuse them.

other peoples Rx's even if some else has the same condition & is on the same medication cannot be dispensed to a different person its illegal....especially if the meds are opened already they are useless unfortunatly...best bet is to take em back to the pharmacy(any pharmacy) and they will destroy them properly...seems like a huge waste I know but thats how it is

Maybe you can try calling old folk homes and see if your father's medication can be given away.

You're supposed to give it back to the pharmacy so they can dispose of it.
