My golden retrievers accidentally had an action that they weren't supposed to, and I wanted to see the chances of my female getting pregnant by doing it once.

How long does it take for a dog to be pregnant? And what signs do you see for a dog to be pregnant?

Both of my dogs are 16 months, so I wanted to see if their ages were okay to have puppies or not.

Thanks!

here is an excellent illustrated site about breeding, pregnancy and whelping..It will help you give mom and pups the best of care> http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/whelping.html

she IS a little young, as she isn't mature herself yet..So she will need to have great care, while carrying the puppies..Golden Retrievers aren't fully mature until 3 years old, but she is most likely pregnant...

by the way, all dogs, regardless of breed carry pups for nine weeks (63 days) give or take 5 days..there is no way to tell if she is pregnant until at least 21 days..at that time her girth at the last rib will begin to grow... So, if you measure it now, and again at 21 days, you will know..Otherwise the vet can tell at 31 days.

If you actually saw the mating and they were linked together - 'yes' your dog could be pregnant. It takes 63 days to have puppies, and the best way to tell is to watch for any blood drippings. This should stop - once the
female is pregnant. Start counting from the day she mated and ask your vet what is the best time to come in and have an X-ray done.
This will determine if and how many.

it takes 9 weeks for them to give birth. if the female is in heat when the "action" occured, most likely she will get pregnant. 16 months is definitely ok. my dog was 9 months when she got pregnant and everything turned out ok.

Gestation period of dogs is 60 days. The most fertile day of a female dog is on her 11th to 13th menstral period. Count the 1st day when you see blood drops coming from your dog. You will notice that her vagina becomes swollen on this period, and emits some smell that is very attractive to male dogs.
