Corolla is far superior. First, almost every consumer magazine which rates reliablity has put the Corolla in a class far above the Focus. Corolla's are known for their reliabity. Second, Corolla's retain their value. Being so reliable has shown consumers that they last longer. A Focus and a Corolla with over 100k miles will not be worth the same. A Corolla has a much higher resale value because most people know that they will generally last longer. I would highly recommend the Corolla!

I would have to say Toyota Corolla. They are more reliable than the Focus. Me personally have had bad luck with fords because some parts are made by Mazda, some by ford, and some by Mitsubishi. It was a real hassle trying to get parts where a Toyota, even though its a foreign car, are mostly made by Toyota. So i would have to say the Corolla would be a better bet.

Toyota Corolla IF you can afford it.
As a total Toyota fanatic, though, I must admit for people who don't drive a lot of miles, OR tend to trade often, the Toyota is not practical due to higher costs, and for a short time or low mileage, it makes no sense to pay a lot extra if you can find another car with at least moderate reliability.
Another related example. I have a 2002 Toyota Sienna with 113,000 miles on it. I plan to drive it to 300,000 miles. If I planned to trade at 75,000 miles, I would buy a Dodge Caravan, because the Caravan will run 75,000 miles with few problems, and is a lot cheaper.
But, don't even think of running a Caravan 300,000 miles!
Ditto for Corolla and a competitor with at least moderate reliability.
When I bought my Sienna, there was an article on the dealer's office door, telling that a Corolla had run 800,000 miles before it needed an engine overhaul. You can be sure the oil was changed more often than recommended by Toyota!
Likewise, there are few other models, except perhaps Honda, which will run 800,000 miles with original engine.

Well, I happen to own a Ford Focus that has held up quite well. Bought it used, and the only thing it's needed in around 25,000 miles besides routine mainetnance has been a $30 parking brake handle. And it's more fun to drive than most Corollas, other than an AE86 of course.

Toyota Corolla, the car was made to last, period. Even if you smash the car, you could literally take the engine, swap it into another Corolla, and the motor will run as if nothing has happened.

Corolla all the way. They've been around since 1968, look better, have a better reputation, and besides, who wants a Fords??
Corolla will also last longer, notice the acronym I made for Toyota.
FORD: Found on road dead
TOYOTA: To our young offspring, this automobile

Go with the Toyota. They are more reliable than any of the American cars. In the not so near future, Toyota is going to overthrow GM (with three divisions)as the worlds # 1 auto maker. So i would take the corolla hands down. GM can hardly stay in first place....and they have seven divisions!

The Focus is pretty new still. I would trust the Toyota Corolla, they have even mastered it to make a hybrid model. The Corolla is more attractive in my opinon too.
