My mother's friend thinks "a gypsy woman" put a voodoo spell on her. I am only using her words-- no offense meant to anyone for stereotyping. Can anybody help point me in the right direction?

Think of it this way. Everything in the universe responds to energy. From electricity to magnetism, gravity to life-energy. All matter and all thought and all life respond in some way to various energies. Curses and "spells" are just other energy patterns. Partially neurological, partially mental and partly metaphysical.

Magic works by altering and affecting energy patterns. So, if the right energy patterns can be set in motion to create the right actions, it is possible to influence people. How strong the influence is and how much effect it produces depend on the type of energy being used.

Whenever you want to cancel an energy pattern, you need to either find the opposite pattern to match and negate it, or remove the person from the influence of the first pattern.

Prayer and other forms of ritual cleansing are the most common ways, which is why cleaning rituals are found in just about every religion and mystical tradition throughout history. Whatever faith your mother's friend follows, have her use whatever cleanings and purifying rituals or prayers are common to that faith. If there are any unwanted energies being directed at her, that will help.

Sometimes it is the BELIEF in curses and hexes that makes them seem to "work". A belief in the hex may cause a person to have a psychosomatic illness in the form of say , headaches for instance. Once the person realizes this, they may find their headaches go away.

Sometimes an occultist will take advantage of a situation, and claim to be the cause of someone's misfortune. Example: someone dies, the occultist will claim they had put a hex on the person and caused it, even though they never did. People will believe it though, and fear the occultist has some kind of power. Perhaps this person told your mom she put a curse on her and took credit for something bad that happened anywa. Some occultists call this "glamor" or "lesser black magic". What it really is, is just plain lying.

It's rare that anyone who claims to be in the occult can actually produce results. A Christian who has Jesus has nothing to fear from spells and hexes. I occasionally get an email from someone who says they've hexed me and I'm going to go insane or die, etc, but they never succeed.

A gypsy woman does not practice Vodou (voodoo). A gypsy woman would practice gypsy folk magic. In Vodou we don't do spells, we ask the lwa to help us with whatever it is we need. We do not curse people in Vodou. Bokors, who do not practice Vodou are the ones that curse, hurt, and kill people.

Long story short....a gypsy woman could not put a "voodoo" anything on anybody because she is not a Bokor and definitely not a practitioner. I know that a reputable Mambo or Hougan can help to remove a curse (with the help of the lwa) from anyone. Besides the belief is, you have to believe in the curse for it to have power over you!

There are very good "uncrossing" spells in the book "Charms spells and formulas" by Ray T. Malbrough. But the most important thing is to uncross and not to hurt.
Use a black candle and black salt.
Thank your god or god's and goddesses for the help. light the black cand and sprinkle with black salt. Ask that any harm being sent to you be removed and turned back to the sender.
Good luck

Their are ways to reflect the spell back onto the person that cast it. Pick up copy of PHYSIC SELF DEFENCE and it will show you how to do that.
The person that cast the spell is under the law of the thre fold return . that which you do unto others will be returned to you three times over.
