The breeder provided her health record where she was given a series of shots at 7 weeks. Will I have to wait until she is 10 weeks or longer?

It is best to wait until she has had at least her second booster. You dont know what dogs have had distemper or parvo in the area. It also sticks around for awhile. Even though your puppy has already had her first booster, the chance is still there. If you want to start teaching your puppy to walk on a leash you can start in your house. Its never to early to start practicing...just remember that your puppies attention span is seriously short right now and to keep it under 3 min with her. As soon as she is old enough (10-12 weeks) , enroll her in a reward based puppy class. They are a lot of fun, easy for everyone (you and the dog), and they are a priceless asset to your puppies well being. It promotes good social skills and manners,a nd helps build your bond with your puppy. Good Luck with your new little girl!

And to all those people who suggest that she gives the dog the shot herself...what are you thinking? Its easy IF you are experienced...its a pretty reckless thing to suggest to someone just to save $30.

Yes please. Wait until she has had her entire Parvo series. Parvo is a serious illness puppies can get walking through infected fecal matter of other dogs. She can be taken out safely when she is 12-16 weeks old. Until then, enjoy her in the comfort of your yard.

Please don't pay attention to the guy that told you to buy the shots and give them yourself. That is fine to do with an older dog that gets a checkup and at least some shots at the vet every year. Not for a puppy.

She will need to have another shot at 11-13 weeks. After she's had the shot you need to wait another 7 days before you can take her out. It takes 7 days before the vaccination is fully effective, but after that you can take her out for walks. Following that her next shots are at 16 weeks. Then once a year after that. My puppy just had her 16 week shot last week.

You can also take her to a puppy pre-school from 10 weeks old. Its really helpful and they'll will tell you everything you need to know. It gives your puppy a chance to play with other puppies... and they'll teach you how to train her on a few basic commands like sit, drop and stay. They have puppy pre-school at a lot of vet clinics for only like $10 a session.

The last set of shots should be given after 16 weeks of age and puppies should not be exposed to other dogs or outside unsafe areas until then.

I presume that her health record indicated that she was given Parvo vaccine. And pls. see if she was already given the "booster " shot, the injection that follows the Parvo. If she got, then it is safe for her to go outside.
You yourself do the next shot. It is cheaper than bringing her to the vet. It is done subcautaneously. (under the skin) Very easy.

you shouldn't start walking him until he's at least 12 weeks old, puppies will be given all of their shots in 2 parts. but i would suggest making sure they have their kennel cough vaccine, their rabies vaccine, their distemper, and lymes disease vaccine. be very careful not to let your dogs near other dogs until he has these. You also need to deworm him, give him flea and tick meds regularly.

Can go as soon as you would like to take him. Just get the shots. Can purchase them yourself and give them at home. Much cheaper then a vet
