A complex remedy includes application of a mixture containing hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid soap; the thiols, which are responsible for the odor, are not water soluble, even with soap, but the baking soda catalyzes the oxidative ability of the peroxide, which oxidizes the thiols into highly water-soluble thiolates. In an episode of the television programme MythBusters, the hydrogen peroxide mix was found to be the most effective smell removal agent.

Wash him with tomato juice! Removing the scent from objects or creatures can be difficult. Some home remedies suggest using tomato juice, beer or vinegar. A more complex remedy includes application of a mixture containing hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid soap[5]; the thiols, which are responsible for the odor, are not water soluble, even with soap, but the baking soda catalyzes the oxidative ability of the peroxide, which oxidizes the thiols into highly water-soluble thiolates. In an episode of the television programme MythBusters, the hydrogen peroxide mix was found to be the most effective smell removal agent.[6]

I once had a dog who made it a regular exercise to rid our yard of stray skunks so I got plenty of practice and experimenting with lots of stuff. Citrus based flea DIP tends to open the cuticle of the hair follicle and the citrus really helps to counteract the foul skunk odor. Follow the instructions on the bottle. I don't even know if they make that stuff anymore, really. Citrus based products help. Tomato may have enough acidic properties to do the trick. I hear it works. Never tried it. Tomato juice in my bath tub? No thanks. Use it full strength if you try it and be generous. I've also heard the above treatment works GREAT! My skunking dog was long dead when this idea came along so I've not had the pleasure. She'll be back to being tolerable in about 2 weeks.

Tomato juice is so wrong. Use 1 pint hydrogen peroxide, 1/4cup baking soda and 2 tbsp dish soap. Do not rinse first. Let sit for 10 minutes. It helps even more if after applying mixture, pat baking soda on the dog.

Tomato juice and DO NOT try to put any perfume on him to hide the scent as it will make the smell come back. I guess the musk of the perfume does it as that is what the skunk sprays, their musk. Good luck!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7H3
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Go to your vet and buy "Skunk Off". You can use it on the dog, the furniture, etc. It really works. My dogs have been sprayed by skunks more than once and I have found this to be the best remedy.

Removing the smell of skunk
The following Skunk Smell Remover Formula is effective in removing skunk smell from sprayed victims.
* 1 U.S. Quart (approx 1 litre) of 3% hydrogen peroxide.
* 1/4 cup (approx 45ml) baking soda.
* 1 teaspoon (approx 5ml) liquid soap.
Directions: Mix together at time of usage, and apply foaming mixture to affected areas.
How it works: The oxygen molecules emitted by the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda reaction deactivate the smell molecules by binding to them and rendering them inert.
