depending on what mental illness you're talking about... you can probably just type "causes of (mental illness)" and it'll come up... go to google.com or something... i've done it before for schizophrenia...

almost all of it is a matter of brain chemistry thats out of balance, most of it is inherited, just type it in a web search, and the most common mental disease is schitzophrenia.
