My bf adds some warm water to the dog's dry food sometimes. You could also try mixing some gravy in with it. You can actually buy doggie gravy but I wouldn't personally do that. Sometimes if I have grated cheese left over I mix that in with her food too. It's hard to separate the tiny bits of cheese from the regular dog food.

I have a dog in Vietnam that has always been fed on people foods since he was a puppy, he is still healthy and smart at 15 years old now.. Almost everyone in Asia only feeds human foods to dogs since there are no dog foods in there. It's a myth that dogs can't evolve and digest human foods and that meaty human foods are less healthy for dogs than dog foods. You just need not to add seasonings, not too much salt or flavors, basically meat, rice, potatoes, fruits and veggies are good for dogs. Dog foods can have preservatives and other ingredients that cause cancer and hurt dogs health in the long term.

Do not just quit cold turkey as some people have said, and do not listen to those that said a dog will not starve theirselves to death as this is very not true.
My suggestion if u want the dog to get off people food completely, just put in some gravy mixed with the food, the gravy will not hurt the dog and mix right in and it will eat the dog food, the gravy will just give it some flavor of people food, and it will eat. I use to have a dog that was like this and tried what chetco said and it did not work, but gravy worked very well.

i'll suggest like some of the others......cold turkey but, make sure that the food you do get for your dog is of good quality!! i would also suggest a "senior" type dog food as it is much easier for the dog to digest..... no gravy type as it isn't nutrious even though the dog might think so...no dog food with red in it either as most manafactures use animal blood to aquire the color....also don't fill the bowl , you didn't mention what the breed type... keep the servings small to help you monitor the progress.... also maybe feeding the dog after your own mealtime might let her know that she's not getting anything from the table !!!! maybe too that only to leave the food out for a limited time might get the message that this is it so don't hesitate or it will not be there later..... just a suggestion but, just like kids old habits are hard to break so don't give in..!!!..... good luck !!! and remember it's for the dogs own welfare......

Make human food a treat, not the rule. Your dog will eat the dog food when it is hungry. He may try to manipulate you by not eating, so try some wet dog food that looks like beef stew. Experiment with different kinds, and work him into dog food. He may think you are punishing him, so give him lots of love and attention during the transition.

put some human food in her dish and then take it out. The smell of the human food will be on her dog food and she may eat it better. Save the human food for a treat not associated with feeding time.

A very tasty dog food, made from dehydrated ingredients is Solid Gold..Wellness and Wysong are also extra tasty and great kibbles..I think I would get quality canned food, such as Canidae, and serve it warmed..then add the kibble a little at a time, always warmed..those foods are made with all human grade ingredients, and should taste much as human food...
Some small dogs will actually starve themselves..really! I had a toy poodle that would...and the vet told me it was common in the toys...So, a gradual change is better for her re-homing issues, and health.

You've really done it...spoiled spoiled spoiled..alot of people think its ok to do this,
you need her to start eating her dog food for her health,
human food can clog canine arteries,
don't go cold turkey, do a gradual change over to dog food only,
rice with chicken or beef broth will help with the change over,
its really in the dogs best interest,
we had a friend that feed nothing but human food to his pup and the dog dies of heart dieses at the age of 6.
good luck, sometimes its harder for us to change our pets habits than it is for them :}

Dogs often think like humans. How would you like it if you were used to human food (which you are) and suddenly served dog food. Same thing....dogs are very emotional by nature and self-esteem is important. Gradually introduce the dog food by being partners with her...in your own way. She will eventually realize this is special food for her and it is okay.

What does that tell you about the dog food? If you want poochie to only EAT dog food, then only GIVE him dog food. Yes, cold turkey. If he's hungry, he'll eat.
