Sight seeing
Emerald Temple is worth a visit
Shopping
Platinum Fashion Mall - must go! wholesale prices, fully aircon, things are pretty new.
MBK shopping centre (adjacent to it is the Tokyu shopping centre)
Naraya at World Trade Centre - shop selling lots of bags and small purses etc. cheap and good and make nice gifts
there are tons of shopping centres but the above are cheaper.
Night Market
Suan Lam Night Market - must go. lots of restaurants at reasonable prices.
Chatuchak Market is only open during the weekends. Things are getting expensive there but if you are a first timer, might want go take a look.
Massage
most of the hotels offer massage services. they will put a placard on the coffee table which you can just ring them.
remember to do your bra shopping cos its 50% cheaper than in singapore. the usual triumph, warcoal etc. yes, they are the real stuff. tip: pls do your shopping at each and every department store. cos they only bring in small quantity of the same sizes so you might not be able to find what you want.
also do remember to get the thailand map from the airport (btw, heard its a new airport)

I live in Bangkok - there are so many things to do here! I wrote an article recently that lists all the different things I think are worth doing - it's at http://travelhappy.info/thailand/thailand-backpacking-a-quick-guide/
There's also suggestions for what to do elsewhere in the country.
Have fun!

I live in Bangkok. It is a great city with everything anyone may need. But when we have holidays we always leave for upcountry. (See pics of our trips at my Y!360) It is great to get out of the polluted city once in a while.

W/o knowing your specific interests, the best advice I can give you is to smile, especially upon meeting - - this is important for a Thai.. other than that, relax, enjoy yourself.. it's a fun place
