It is a possibility, although a very far off one. Despite what some consider the downside of designing a human formed android for combat; such as the balance and speed issues. There is one advantage to these types of androids, and that is efficency. An android soldier does not need special weapons or equipment engineered. It would be able to use the same weapons, tools and equipment of the regular soldier. Asimov makes this arguments in one of his robot books and it makes sence to me.

As far as the androids completely replacing human combatants, it would be very unlikely. There would most likely remain a human command element in the field. After all, androids and robots are just machines and incapible of certain thought and decision making skills that we take for granted.

We can look at a situation that occured during the First Guld War as an illustration. A squad of soldier operating behind enemy lines were given the order to avoid detection at all costs. During their mission, they were spotted by a young girl. Had the squad been made up of android soldiers, the girl would have been killed. As it happened in this case however, the soldiers withdrew from the area rather than kill the child.

Of course all of this is speculation on my part.

Androids think on their own and robots are programed to do things. There are already robots, such as guided missiles, in warfare. Some unmanned cargo vehicles might come on like in a decade. Androids are probably 100 years away from being close to anything being called an android. Then there would be a question of if they are actually needed, since remote controlled vehicles would probably be more effective.

No, the human body has weakness built into the design. Legs getting damaged, arms loosing grip of its weapon, balance issues galore. Why walk around and shoot things when you could fly or roll around much quicker than any bipedal locomotion. Based on fear, I would think anybody who has seen the first Terminator would agree that a bipedal cyborg chasing after you is somewhat scary! Perhaps the scariest idea surrounding that prospect is the whether the robot/android has the choice of who lives and who dies. Thats scary! UCAV's (Unmanned Combat Air Vessel) Are just about there, as for now the license to kill is till left to the human to decide. Perhaps that is just as scary.

No. If robots ever are used in warfare, it is highly unlikely they would be "androids", if by that term you mean of a human form. There is no real motivation or increased effectiveness in making them resemble humans.
