I'm trying to figure out the best way to get home to the west coast for christmas from this little town in the middle of rural pennsylvania.
all the airfares from here are extremely expensive, so i think i should go to new york or washington. but it will cost hundreds of dollars just to park my car at the airport for 3 weeks. so i want to take amtrak to new york or dc in order to get to the airport. but i need to drive to the amtrak station which is 40 miles away from this small town. so my question is: am i allowed to park my car at the amtrak station parking lot for 3 weeks if it's a small town amtrak station?

I would say probably so. With reference to service available on my seniority districts in northern California, free parking is available in most all of the stations serving small towns. I can think of perhaps twelve or fifteen.
You won't get answers from Amtrak, but I would call the Chamber of Commerce or the city hall of the town you'll be traveling through. They can answer your question, I'm sure.

Most Amtrak stations are located in the seedy parts of town,smaller ones are not open 24/7. I live in Stockton,ca. and wouldn't want to be alone anywhere in the vicinity of our local station after it closed at 9 pm,drunks dopers,whores and street people all around the area. No car would be safe. Why don't you check the yellow pages of the town you referred to and look for parking other than at the train station.

You might get lucky and find free parking if it is a small town. However, most likely there will be signs posted forbidding this and they might actually enforce it by towing your car. I think the best idea would be to have a friend drive you there and pick you up.

Free? I think no, but there may be a paid let that is not too bad. Try calling the town, - Can you take greyhound to DC or some such thing

Everywhere I have taken Amtrak, tehre was free parking, just some places have time restrictions.

Personally, I would rather pay a friend to drive me to the station, than leave my car anywhere it is not secured.

They have parking, and you can stay as long as you want, but it isnt long term parking in the sense of rates. It can be very pricey.
