Should I use my monitor's speakers or the ones I already have set up?

I just got a pretty good viewsonic flatscreen (VA2012wb), and I'm wondering if the sound from the monitor would be better than my speakers... my speakers are a couple years old and AOpen brand.

Listen to it each different way, and then decide whether the non-attached speaker system is worth the space it takes up over the monitor's built-in speakers.

Almost all the time, the speakers that are part of the monitor aren't as good as seperate speakers.
