If we allowed prayer in school, whose prayer would it be? Would it be the muslim prayer? The Bhuddist chant? The Christian prayers? See, the problem is, if you let one group pray - you have to let everyone pray. So - I am for this, but are you going to let your kid take part in a Satanist's prayer? Or a Druid's prayer? Or are you such a bigot and discriminate so much that only your prayer is allowed? Funny - that might not go over well. See the problem here? Do you finally grasp why YOU NEED PRAYER AT HOME???? Not in the schools. Another thing, I went to school in the 70's and I don't remember prayer in school. And I recall, no pregnant teenagers, no kids with guns (in fact - we used to go in the playground and use our fist). Funny thing - I think the biggest problem with kids back then was smokes...

I can live with the private time if it is done at their desk in not in groups where others would be outcasts. I think that would be reasonable.

Memories, I do remember those days. Your parents would spank you if you misbehaved. Now the parents let someone else raise their children. Day care,pre-school and baby sitters. We didn't have that. Mom's stayed at home,or worked around school schedule. They say that they need to work...For what? To pay for Day care and pre-school. If parents don't what to raise their children, why are they having them????

I graduated in 71. No religion was allowed in schools. In High School we had to hide our lunch-time bible studies and prayer groups because we would be punished if we were caught. There was the occasional gun in our schools (including Jr. High). There were knives, pipes and chains as weapons for after school fights. A few of my classmates were pregnant and others had 1 or more kids. Drugs on campus were banned yet common. Smoking cigarettes was the least of our worries. I attended Los Angeles Unified School District for my elementary, Jr. High and High Schools in the San Fernando Valley.

Silent time for reflection/meditation/prayer is important for young minds. Especially today, when there is not enough time to stop & think. More to learn, more TV, more Video Games. They need quiet time to step back and see how events (at home, on the playground, news, etc.) relate to what they know and how it is relevant to their own beliefs about life, the universe & everything.

Morals were thrown out with religion because any good religion has morals in their texts. These days we have gangs in our schools that have a little respect for life. We have bullies beating up kids without consequences and some of their victims have been pushed so far that they have taken guns to school and gone on a shooting spree.

History and current world events are a mystery to us because we don’t understand the religious mindset of the people involved. It would be nice to have learned the real truth about other religions from people that are experts in their own religion. And open dialogue with my parents would have given them the opportunity to strengthen my resolve in our family’s beliefs.

I couldn't agree more! People who want prayer in schools, want Christian prayer only. They would be screaming bloody murder if a Muslim wanted to say a prayer. That's hypocritical. I'm all for prayer in groups before or after school or quietly together with friends or whatever....that's already allowed. But, I'm against prayer over the loud speaker system schoolwide.

Well if you pray at All Prayer is between you and God and people pray over there meal etc. The School cannot Dictate What prayer and whose Religion to use but to each his are her own. the schools have to Respect The vast Faiths in the World and let them do what feel to do for them selves.

I was in school back in the 70's and I do remember prayer in school. I recall teens being pregnant and the fights,no guns however. The problem is since they have took prayer out of the schools, children have lost respect for all people. I don't have anything against any ones religion, but sweetie this is America! We speak English and the Majority of people believe in the one true God Jehovah.

Yeah because ALL Muslims are bombers!!!!

Hateful much? which God do you pray to that preaches hate and intolerance?

You allow one religions prayer in school and you MUST allow for all of them. You don't get to just pick and choose. I would love some FSM prayer alongside Jesus and Buddha. RAmen.

I am not a religious person but in our schools we have a moment of silence. That way you can pray to whomever you chose or not at all. Seems to work really god here

"you have to let everyone pray. So - I am for this"

I'm not even for that, it would take an hour to do that everyday. Kids should be learning at school, not praying.

What brought this on? I teach in a hyper-religious state (Utah) and there is no prayer in school here. Not even a concern, for that matter.

Separation of church and state...that's not difficult.
