I am trying to do some calculation for plastics e.g. the shrinkage volume and ratio etc. Can any kind soul out there please help? do email me at hallokitty_11@yahoo.com
I am having difficulties as not many people in the industries know how to calculate them manually. Most people would use software like Cam to help.

I did a research on plastics about 10 years ago on plastics. In a nutshell plastics do not behave like metals by having fixed mechanical properties. Instead any two samples taken will give you different values. A 'statistical average' is instead used for calculation purposes. These values are obtained empirically for a given material and should be avaliable from the manufacturers of the plastic.
The shrinkage will depend on parameters such as mould temperature, mould pressure(injectyion mouldin), time the pressure is sustained in mould, the initial temperature of the molten plastic and so on.

Good luck
