I agree that the bible is merely a book, but 1/3 of the world CLAIMS to live by it. You must know your enemy as you know yourself. Knowledge is power!

You say it's just a book. That's an assumption on your part that you have not proven. The christian view is that it's Gods revelation to mankind. Sure it was written by men. But the scriptures say that those men were divinely inspired by God. That means that though they wrote the books of the bible, the very thoughts did not come ultimately from them. God put the thoughts in their mind. They just wrote them down. Stephan Hawking has been called the Einstein of the 21st century. He has written many books on physics. But Stephan Hawking has Lew Gehrigs disease. He is a quadropelegic. He can't physically write anything. He dictates to a secretary and that secretary does the actual physical writing. But could we say that the secretary wrote the book just because that secretary physically wrote it. No. because the thoughts didn't come from the secetary. It's the same thing with the men who wrote the bible.
If you are going to reject what the bible says to you then you'd better make sure it isn't the word of God. If it is and you one day stand before God to give an account of yourself you're not going to be able to say, "I didn't know what was expected of me" because Gods revelation was here but you just chose of your own free will to ignore it.

the Bible is one of the most unique books in history (contrary to critics) and it is a historically and geologically proven. The Bible has served as one of the most kept accounts of the ancient world and has only been proven more accurate with additional geographical explorations. Its funny how the commandments and guidence given in the bible work so well.... but its not truth because it works... it works because its truth..

The book "Case for Faith" by lee strobel asks the very question you asked. Its a New York Times bestseller and was written from the point of view of atheist turned christian. its really good!

The bible has some good common sense laws. Be good to each other, eat the right foods, don't kill, steal or sleep around. So the morals of the stories are good, even if the book is a twisted bit of fiction.

You have the choice. To believe or not. You are right it is "just a book" but it's like any text book, you can lean or just use the book to hold open the door. It's a matter of faith.

becouse even if you do not beleave it, try following what the ten commandments say. your life will get better just from those things! then try following the rest of what the bible has to say on how you should act... you will not beleave how much better you life will become!

if it is just any other book, then it was written by a very smart man who know how someone should act to be their happiest, so I would recomend it to anyone!

Like your passport, or your drivers license, or your graduation certificates, or your birth certificates, or a lot of other things that come printed on paper. Hey, it doesn't cost you anything and you won't lose anything to believe, but if you don't it may cost you everything. Don't be so negative. Would you say, ''No'', to someone wanting to give you a stack of dollars bills? So, just give it a try, it can enrich your life in ways that you must experience to believe.

The Bible is a teaching tool one a relationship with God and history lesson all in one,....if you look at prophecies that have already been fulfilled and compare them with actual history and from the news you will find that they were fulfilled to the completeness that was prophecied....so that means that you can predict our future with the Bible.

The things taught us in the Bible are there for guidance and for us to ask for wisdom and grace on a daily basis....it is so that we will be ready to enter into the kingdom of God....God has so much patience and love for us that he made a way for us to be accepted into his pure and holy kingdom,....please open your heart and let Jesus in to be your savior,.....you will find that he is alive and well with much power that is lived thru you when you give your life, love, and concerns to him,....invite the holy spirit to be with you and enter you daily and to be with you as your comforter and guide. It truly is the most power force that I have ever felt.

Be patient with yourself in understanding and accepting a faith like what the Bible has revealed to you....if you are to be accepted into the kingdom it is because you are ripe and ready to be harvested,....you will know when you are to completely give yourself to him and live your life anew throwing away your old self..it is a wonderful feeling and I am very grateful to my Lord Jesus Christ in what he suffered for you and I.

It is useful to know what it says so you can know just how badly the fundies are deluding themseleves. And since fundies have a large influence on may governments (such as Iran and the US), knowing what they believe can tell you a lot about what is going on and why.

You can live without it of course.

If you read it (From Front to end) it could change your life.

We are all given freedom of choice. I read the Bible from start to finish (Old Testiment to new) it took one whole year and it changed my life. I am one of those show me type of people and it did.

Read it, the whole thing, little by little until you are finished (Enlgish Version) and then make your own decision.
