I love that people blame the devil for this question. God says to kill the unbelievers. The devil makes men into unbelievers, thus it is the devil's fault they died... Ummm, shouldn't god have said go into the land of the unbelievers and convert them? Wouldn't this have made more sense? If god were so concerned with unbelievers shouldn't he make them believers?
Your guestion is pure and simple truth. Very well put. I agree with you completely. Thanks!

There are several parts to your questions, thus there are several answers.
First you should ask yourself why are you here? The answer is to worship God. And as a test. If you past that test you Go to heaven. That test might be being poor, or ill, experiencing a death or any tittle thing! everything in life is a test and how you behave while passing those test adds up just like a bank account. All your deeds good and bad are counted and in the end of days you shall respond for them.
Second is God Good or evil? Of course God is good why would you be here if God where not Good? Why are you breathing? But in the nature of God is the one who punishes and rewards. And thus your action have consecuences.
Third, Why are wars and crimes commited? God gives free will to people and they do as they wish because this too is a test. So people are the ones that are good or bad and have good or wrotten hearts.
Regarding the devil, oh he is real.... he tempts people into doing bad things and then watches his hands....

Regarding the bible, point taken. The bible has many mistakes we all know that, but the bible has its origen from God so we must see the mistakes as man made and absorb the message, which is there is only one God and you should obey and serve God because God is your creator. All the "divine texts" have the same message... LOL.
As a matter of fact here is a link :
http://personal.bgsu.edu/~roberth/bible.html
This should not deviate you from seeking God, on contraire you should be seeking God even more and read within the texts themselves what is underneath....
I am a free spirit and i believe God is real and I am on this earth because of God and I have seen miracles... and I believe in one true God. I do not need any magic book to tell me this... A friend of mind told me You can find God even if you do not know how to read and lived in a mountain.

It's really a great question and a long discussion in it. I'll try to mention just some of my points to contribute to it! I don't answer for the points!
1. It is since the age of tribalism one major feature that determined human groups, and this is kinship and connection with some animal or thing that is considered to be the most ancient ancestor, i.e. totemism. The thing is this separated one tribe from another and developed the first good-evil controvercies continuing in views of reality, myths, rites and so on... Obviouslly there is no reasonable argument for one tribe's views were morally higher than another's
2. The development of the view of the world as one whole thing, or what in Greece was called cosmos (macrocosmos), suggested that the world is one whole, and its rules are general, and the eidence of it is that these rules are the same for the individual, the particular... Those who lived against the rules of the world were actually evil and punished (weather during their life, or after death, or in their rebirth/reincarnation), This is very controvercial for philosophers had to admit that human mind is not actually capable to understand the tru laws of the world, so we are just trying to make suggestions in our morals... Many religions fell into the trap because they believed the end of the world will be soon...
3. The controvercy could be explained philosophically as a logical falacy which confuse the place of the reason and consequence... i.e. religion, or tradition is supposed to result in good deeds but the opposite is not tru, not always religion would result in good deeds... see, just as water on the streets could be caused by other things than rain...
4. The good we are talking about is the collective good, and thus it is a result of collectivism, for which the good of the majority is the good of all... many religious atrocities are result of this idea. Today we know that the individual must be protected for otherwise the group loose sight of the human beings and is ready to sacrifice their lifes for the idea of good.
Hope that would make some contribution...

Hi, I do understand where you are coming from. As a Spiritualist Medium, and therefore a Spiritualist (this is not strictly a religion but more a way of life) I believe, and have been told by those in the spirit world (or Heaven as some like to call it) that there is no such thing as the Devil. The spirit world (Heaven) is there for all to return to when they leave this earthly life. Those who have sinned, ie. committed bad deeds will have to face themselves when their soul goes back to the spirit life. Their soul will have to live with other souls who have commited atrocities and I understand that is not a very pleasant experience. However, if they are genuinely sorry for what they did on earth, they can progress in the spirit world. As regards to the Bible, then again as I understand it from the spirit world, it was written by man to control man. Some of it is true. There is a God, or Divine Spirit, and Jesus did exist. Much of the Bible is used by conventional religions to control and indoctrinate people. In the same way, those who wrote the Bible produced the idea of the Devil, again to frighten and control. With regard to the battles you speak of, these are not because of God, but because of the indoctrination in the different religions and the free will of man. God, or the Divine Spirit is good, it is man who abuses the freewill that God gave us. Everything that happens in the world is the freewill of man. I hope this goes some way in answering your question and no doubt there will be many people on here who will disagree with me.

The whole Good versus Evil, Heaven and Hell thing was ancient way of the priveledged controlling the masses. The Bible as we know it was first brought about by Constantine the Roman Emporer a couple of hundred years after Jesus had died. He had the final say of which went in and which didn't. What he also did was to introduce a lot of non christian things into the catholic faith so as believers of other faiths would start turning to Christianity. For example there was a faith that believed that the son of their God was born on 25th Dec. Costantine then introduced the fact that Jesus' birthday was on 25th Dec. Even the idea of the Virginal Mary was taken for another faith.
So the point I'm making is that Constantine who was facing a power struggle in Rome solidified his position as Roman Emporer by the merging of many faiths into one, Christianity.
Now that he has them under his control he uses the Bible as a way to keep them in line. Back in those days they ruled by fear, good old fire and brimstone.
I hope I have answered your question

God is supposed to be Good.
However, what men do, even in the name of God, is not necessarily good.
It's not like you can expect God to physically stop a war, or someone causing a war... If you could, then God should also wipe off famine, diseases...
So you cannot blame God for all these deaths, but the ignorance, selfishness, ignorance, intolerance, ego of humans.
Furthermore, if I was the Devil, I wouldn't cause wars that kill people; if my aim is to get people's souls, I would slowly entice them with riches, make them do all sorts of things for money. I'd invent the out-of-hand capitalism system.

You can't say God caused all these acts of war. God does say to kill people because they don't believe, rather, the Devil is the one who puts these thoughts into peoples minds that all are bad but those who believe the way they do. The devil (for those who believe in him) is very manipulative.

Well, first of all your question is not a simple one.
Secondly, has anyone ever done something that they thought would please you - but it didn't?
It is neither logical nor pragmatic to 'blame' God for the things men have done in His name.
Whether or not you believe in any religion, you obviously do believe in 'right' and 'wrong' and the rest should not matter to you. Give this question no further debate; however, please don't jump hypothetical fences and assume that just because someone does something in the name of God - good or bad - that God had anything to do with it.
Come on; you are smarter than that!

God is not responsible for what we as humans choose to do..... Many times men and women have distorted the words of God to their own ends.... they know that people will not give their lives in battle for a disagreement with another world leader... but if u bring God into it, it becomes a passion fueled quest......
Praying that God will give u the answers u seek....

dessagree:
people were sacrificed to false gods (AKA deamons)
even the wars that invalved religion were not entirely coused by religion
half the time when someone is doing an act of evil "In the name of God" they are only fooling themselves with a picture of god that they created. God would never tell someone to do an act of evil, people who do things like that are usualy being misslead by the devil
so it's all about how close you look realy

You do not want to debate, but you have sparked off a debate !
Even in politics, leaders do not directly clash with each other, only their supporters do !
So , neither God or the Devil are cause of any misery. Only the respective followers create most of their own misery !
