"You seem like a nice guy, but I'm sorry but I'm not interested." Don't tell him you are busy, that you have a boyfriend, or that you aren't looking for a relationship right now unless you mean them. See if you tell him you are busy then he will say another day and time. If you tell him that you have a boyfriend and later he finds out that you don't he will either be really hurt or ask you out again and this time tell you that he knows you have no boyfriend. If you tell him that you aren't looking for a relationship he will probably say neither am I all I'm asking for is a date. So go with the simple......."You seem like a nice guy, but I'm sorry but I'm not interested."

Honesty is the best policy. Tell him politely, "No, thank you." I know, it's easier said than done. However, letting him down quickly is much better than leading him on for awhile.
If for some reason you can't get out of going out with him (you feel sorry for him and end up saying yes rather than no, which happens frequently, believe me!), you might be surprised that you actually have a lot in common. Marriages have begun this way.
If it DOESN'T work after that date, if there is a date at all, then you MUST tell him you don't think it will work out. Treat him as you would like to be treated. What you do comes back to you.

You could always just go out and score a free dinner or whatever it is he is planning on doing. Or you can tell him the truth that you're not interested or make up excuses. Like you have plans already. That you're doing something and soon enough he'll get the point unless he is really persistent.

Just be nice about it. Think about how YOU would want to be turned down. For example, don't be snotty or arrogant about it. You probably ran away because you were afraid to hurt his feelings, but that's not the way to operate. Be adult about it and you'll come out smelling like a rose.

Politely explain that you are not interested in going out with him. Don't make up excuses or avoid answering the question, as that could confuse him and give him the disillusion that he should continue to try and ask you out. Be clear but polite and it will be best for both of you.

Thank him but say that you are not interested in dating at this time. It's polite and to the point.

Tell him your not ready for a relationship. Or say you have a boyfriend. Or say you only like him as a friend.

just tell him you're really flattered but you dont like him in that way. tell him that you'd like to be friends still (if you actually will) and then just talk to him like nothing ever happened. it'll be way easier on him, and for me, it helps me get over girls faster that way, and its more comfortable to talk to you afterwards then before.
