Day and night. 50 Yds. on average. 3 iron is difficult to hit the 9 iron is an easy to hit scoring club. The shaft length differs by 3" and the loft by up to 24 degrees. Never attempt to learn golf with a 3 iron it is a difficult club to hit despite the fact you can hit the ball farther.

The 3 iron has less of a incline on the club. The 3 iron will hit the ball farther and with less height while the 9 iron will put a lot of height on the ball.

3 iron goes further 9 iron goes shorter
3 iron has a low loft 9 has a high loft
3 iron is for long fairway hits 9 is for shots up to 100 yards and rough

and you should have both in your bag

G'day bigbossmaya,

Thank you for your question.

A 3-iron is normally used for driving normally an approach shot to the green on a par 5 or 4 hole or the first shot on a par three. A 9 iron is used for pitching shots.

I enclose sources for your reference.

Regards

The lengths of the shafts, the sizes of the club faces, the angles (loft) on the club faces, the gap you oftentimes hit the ball, the height the ball might want to typicallly fly, the determination it is printed on the face of the club.
