Humor is important for the comedian.
Truth is important for all the rest of us.

I prefer a truthful doctor, lawyer, accountant, employee, romantic partner, etc.

I prefer to avoid wasting my time on most trivia, truthful or humorous..

Humor is truth. We laugh when someone points out a funny thing about ourselves that we can identify with. Consider the Red Neck jokes. We laugh because we see truth about ourselves.

I think humor is a tool to escape loneliness, not to dissolve it. It means a temporary relief to ease the pain of loneliness. Understanding the truth about loneliness is the dissolving factor. Humor is important if you want to delay the dissolution of loneliness.

Humor except at a person's death is always appropriate, but the truth is not, when telling the truth is going to hurt someone it is better to tell them a joke. I don't say out right lie, but why hurt someone when you could make them laugh?
