yeah it does thats why nobody should ever call it just for the hell of it because one little prank call for one little second can block out an important call that can save a life thats why they take it seriously saying its for EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY!

I thought I entered the twilight zone..What if a frantic mothers infant was sufforcating and she called 911 and they said...thanks for calling 911 all operators are serving other 911 callers plz stay on the line and dont hang up otherwise others will get ahead of your call :-0!!!!!!!

A kid walked into a restaurant where my wife and I were eating and pulled a gun on the owner. He was drunk and pissed off like you can't imagine. I took my wife and stuck her in the Menes' room toilet stall and gave her my cell phone. She was put on hold and I went outside the mens' room to watch what was going on. 15 min. later the kid was gone, and no one was hurt. My wife hung up after the first 10 min. on hold. My cell phone rang and it was the police demanding to know my location because i had made a prank 911 call. You can imagine the choice words I had for that idiot. as I made my report. Moral of the story....Police seem only to be around when the police are the source of the problem.

It happens in Detroit all the time....there has been several incidents where a kid would call and they don't show up thinking it's a prank.
Well if you call the police in Detroit there not likely to show up.
I had a girl hit my car in Detroit once...I waited about an hour before I left the scene..no show
HA HA I knew some one who had a guy peeing on the lawn in there front yard. Police called twenty minutes later he's still there no cops....Call back and say forget it send the meat wagon and they arrive in 5 minutes

yes you can be put on hold------just imagine if there is a big accident and 30 people report the accident at the same time--I don't think one operator could handle all the calls-----you do sometimes have to wait after dialing 911

yes, it happens. There's only so many operators to go around. Generally, it only happened to older 911 systems. The newer system puts you in a que and you're picked up by the first available operator

I can confirm this is a fact. It has happened to me before, and yes, it WAS an emergency. The problem is that they get such a high volume of calls, yet often they are understaffed or the phone lines are clogged by people calling for non-emergency related issues.

in some cities when you call they ask if your calling for fire, the police, or a medical emergency. these are busy people fielding calls distinguishing which are prank calls and which are real. give them a break.
