After being granted your GED, talk to a counselor at the community college you are going to be attending. Let the counselor know that you want to continue at a 4-year college for a teaching degree. Most of your "basic" requirements can be taken at the community college level, and you may be able to complete some "lower" education requirements for your state at this level.

State requirements for teacher education programs vary, so be very diligent about keeping up with these requirements. Unfortunately, some community college and four-year college counselors have not been sufficiently trained or educated on state requirements. Caveat Emptor prevails: "Let the Buyer Beware".

Make sure that the community college you're going to has credits that will count at the university you want to go to. If they do... than you'll just need 2 years at each and maybe an extra year to get your license. It varies state by state.

Some states only require an Associates and a teaching certificate. Depends on where you be.
