Ah its a fine line you walk. How much is your future peace of mind worth? A woman is going to look at that ring and see how much you love her, no matter what she says to your face.

I think a good way is to look at what is expected in her circle of friends. If everyone has tiny diamonds, then go with that. If you come from a social group where women have to have special little carts to hold up their ring finger, then you need to match them.

Don't believe the advertising that you "should" spend the equivalent of two or three months' salary on a ring. Now, you said wedding ring, but I'll include engagement ring here. A mature woman really doesn't care how much her ring cost - she does cherish the symbolic aspects of it. For an engagement ring, it's the betrothal, the promise. For the wedding band, it's the promise of forever. Spend how much you feel you can comfortably afford - don't get yourself in financial debt over it. Good luck!

Based on how much he could afford. It doesn't mean that the more epxpensive the ring, the greater the love. A ring is only a symbol of marriage. Some couples' love are so strong that they don't even need the ring to bind them all throughout the journey. True love is from the heart. Not how much the ring costs.

I think a guy should spend however much he feels comfortable with. I don't believe in the whole 3 month salary thing.

My gf saw a very nice engagement ring/wedding band set at a jewerly store for $1600 that she just feel in love with, so I went back later and got it.

In no way is this 3 months of my salary, but she loved it and that is what truely matters.

Best way is to kinda ask your fiance-to-be what kind of ring shape she likes and see if she has any preference. If you want it to be a surprise, have her close friends/family member ask her for you and tell them to be discreet about it. There's no answer to how much you should spend on a ring. It's more like finding the right one that you feel comfortable with to give to your fiance-to-be. Good luck!

My Fiance's wedding ring is gonna cost somewhere around 500 dollars. This is simply because he wears a large size ring and I am having it engraved with a special texture on the top. Mine is only gonna cost around 360 dollars even thought its two-toned gold.

Spend what you can afford.
$500, $1000, $5000

Figure out how much you want to spend and stay in that range. My ownly word of advice is to stay away from the mall and chain diamond stores. The mark up is CRAZY. We picked out mine at bluenile.com and love the ring. Even if you don't buy there i'd check out bluenile to get an idea of price... they are pretty competative.

WELL, IT DEPENDS ON HIS BUDGET AND IF IT'S THE ENGAGEMENT RING OR THE ACTUAL WEDDING BAND. 9 TIMES OUT OF 10, THE BAND WON'T BE AS COSTLY AS THE INITIAL ENGAGEMENT RING. MAYBE BETWEEN $3,000-$3,500 IS A GOOD AVERAGE COST TO START WITH.

Only what you can afford and still buy a house.

Trust me, you come up with the downpayment on a house, she'll wait for the big ring.

Rule of thumb is two months salary if you can afford it - that would be on average about $3500-$4000
If you cant, no less than $1500
