Recent studies have discovered a real health crisis: Some conservative Christian denominations are a breeding ground for American obesity. See this link:

Is there a Christian response? Should doctors assume that being a protestant constitutes a risk factor for life-threatening obesity? What role does Christian abstinence from sex, alcohol, tobacco, and dancing play? Christians have built hospitals: should they also build weight-loss centers?

I apparently did not make this clear: The study found that Protestant Christians were becoming fatter than Catholics, Jews or Muslims.

Actually church attendance is almost as high now as it was 100 years ago, and is higher than it was in colonial times.

I'm guessing the fact that most of America eats garbage, doesn't exercise lives in suburban or rural areas (so everyone drives everywhere rather than walks) has a lot more to do with the obesity issue than anything else.

Your body is a temple and should be treated as such.

The US is becoming more obese and less religious. If being a Protestant caused obesity then it would be tough to explain why there was virtually no obesity like 100 years ago when most everyone in the country was Protestant and going to church on a regular basis.

And all atheists, then, are slim and trim specimens of perfect health?
Uh, no, sorry....atheists are also getting fatter. Could it be that they need more time down on their knees??
Christians have build weight loss centers, btw. I have a membership to the YMCA here in my town, where I can use both the indoor and outdoor track, the weight room, the pool, attend aerobics classes, weight training classes, yoga classes, dance classes...and even get a massage, or take a sauna.
AND I get all of this for around $20 a month. Cool deal!!

Americans as a whole are becoming obese. A study like that is just like me saying "Kids that go to school are becoming obese"...it's stupid. Scientific research or not, some things are just a waste of time and money. People are dying of AIDS and Cancer, and all they can think of to do is a study that shows that Protestants are becoming obese...what a waste of resources! I hope that's not what they're spending my tax money on...

I thought eating too much would be a sin. The hypocrisy disturbs me more than their obesity problem.

Did anorexic atheists conduct the study?
