I know there's ways to do it on your own with out paying a lot for a service to do it but I'm not sure what to look for. Any suggestions?

Buy a DVD recorder. A cheap one that also plays DVDs costs like a hundred dollars.

All you do is hook the camcorder up with the cable that came with the camcorder to the DVD recorder.

Start recording.

Some older camcorders didn't come with the cabe in the box. Don't worry there out and there and are called camcorder cables.
Just go to your local electronics store.

If this isn't easy enough, you can purcchase a unit that plays/records on both VCRs and DVDs. Designed for people with lots of tapes.

If you have a computer with DVD burner you'll need software with a TV card (I've seen some as low as $30) or a USB to AV adapter. A popular brand is Camera Mate.
