I shower regularly, but also whenever I have acne on my chest and pop them it smells moldy. I don't eat perfectly healthy, but I don't eat fast food or fried food all that often. I do drink a few times a week, and smoke. And every 4-5 months I get a pea sized(sometimes larger) sebacious cyst on the back of 1 or the other earlobes that I can't drain for a while until it surfaces. About a year ago I started being really conscious of gently washing and thouroughly rinsing behind my ears every time in the shower but it hasn't seemed to change anything. I'm at a loss....

You basically answered your own question...your body produces sebum, an oil that conditions the hair and skin. Bacteria invade the pores, mixing with the sebum, producing a moldy or cheesy odor.

It's natural to smell from behind your ears. I suggest that you switch to head and shoulders even if you do not have dandruff to help unblock pores -do not use conditioner or other hair products. Wash with an antibacterial soap (ex. dial) and Use an oil-free frangrance free moisturizer. Stop smoking it's no good! Never pick at acne it causes scars. Get a dermatologist to pop your pimples.

If you can drain them then It sounds like you have boils. They are contagious and do need to be drained by a doctor and you will need medicine to take by mouth. It doesnt matter if you take a bath all the time you can still get them and they can still spread. You just have to make sure that you thoroughly wash your hands after touching them to keep from spreading it. Go to the doctor.

switch shampoos, continue to regularly wash, and next time you happen to be at the doctors [i wouldn't recommend making a special appointment just for this, but if you're there because of having a sore throat or being sick or something] you may want to mention this to them.

it doesn't seem to serious, but I'm sure a doctor could help

Acne (at least according to the books I am reading) can be caused by the candida fungus (yeast). That may be why it smells like it smells. Check out the yeast link at www.hufa.org.

Hope it helps.
