I think GOD is fine and everything, but who the heck do we think we are sending missionaries to other countries, and telling these people that they are a bunch of idiots for thier religion is worth no more than horse shi*t. Why do we have to do that. It is so disrespectful to others cultures. WHAT RIGHT DO WE HAVE? How do we know that we are not the fools following the wrong God? the BIBLE BLAH BLAH BLAH. I dont care, how many times have gods come and gone, just because of conquest. What makes us so sure that we can just barge into someones country or village, and start putting down thier religion that they have lived with all thier life, and tell them its wrong. I am surprised that missionaries dont get fuKing slaughtered by insulting such people.
HOW WOULD WE LIKE IT IF SOMEONE CAME TO THE US AND STARTED DOING THAT?? we would be freaking outraged, start riots. And whats up with our goverment, I thought they were suppose to be seperated from religion?

COME on of coarse if you go to another country which is poor, help them and then tell them they are sent by god, what are they gonna do. You know what I am for. I am for just going to 3'rd world countries and helping people. DOnt help them then expect them to convert, that is not fair at all.

A) If you believe you have a way to save the world, wouldn't you share it? That's what missionaries do. Whether you agree with them or not, they believe they have something to give, and have a responsibility to share it. Those they approach have no obligation to accept. This isn't the 1500s anymore. Cortez ain't burning Tenochtitlan anymore.
B) That does happen here. Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses go door to door. Hare Krishnas wait at airports. Heck, Methodists have their TV commercials. Where are the riots?
C) Church and state are separate. If you want to see otherwise, go live the Middle East or East Africa under Sharia. Or even in Europe, where you can pay taxes to religion. Here, the legislators, as humans, are guided by many things. Their religious beliefs, and what they see as popular beliefs are among those things. If you don't like it, don't whine here, complain to them. Or help an opposing candidate.

It is not at all disrespectful. Missionaries are merely beggars who tell other beggars where to find bread.
We are commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ to go and make disciples of all nations, and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is not an American invention. This was started in the Middle East. It spread from there to India and Europe within 60 years of Christ saying that.
Everywhere it has gone, the message of the cross has transformed lives. Peoples who sacrificed virgins to 'gods' that demanded human sacrifice, didn't do it any longer. Wherever missionaries go, they begin their work by first earning the right to be heard by the people there. They don't just go in and tell them how wrong they are.
As people see the differences in the lives of these missionaries, they begin to listen. And only then is the Gospel shared. Many missionaries have died in the service to our Lord, because the people didn't respond well.
As far as the separation of church and state goes; I challenge you to find that clause in the U.S. Constitution. It is not there.

No, most missionaries are not potty mouthed adolescents who go into a place and call the people idiots etc. They know that if they wish to be successful must treat people with respect, earn their trust etc. They try to convert by telling people good things about the religion they are trying to convert others to, not by putting down the other religion.
Also, the US government doesn't send missionaries, the individual churches do -- get a clue.

I agree with you that missionary work can be insulting and sometimes worse, but don't forget a couple of things:
1) The people who do the work are pretty selfless, and their inspiration comes from their true belief in the Bible and its command to spread the Gospel. More importantly,
2) Often times, missionaries are the only resource indigenous people have for health care, road/well funding, and protection from neo-liberal governments that seek to take over and exploit natural resources.
Missionaries aren't perfect, but who is? And more to the point, who is helping indigenous people if missionaries disappear? Neither of us is logging on to Yahoo! Answers from a malaria clinic out in the jungle.

Besisdes what Esther said which is really the only thing that matters- you should get your facts straight. First of all, missionaries don't go in and shove their religion in peoples face, call them idiots or demean the people and their culture in any way.
Missionaries research the culture, language and the needs of the place they are going- they go in prepared to fill a need, medical, food, building , etc. As they are filling the physical needs they share with the people their faith and they share about who it is that filled them with the love that motivates them to come and fill that need.
Unfortunately, people are coming into the United States, taking what they need without having any respect for the faith that was the foundation for the building of this country, they come in and force their ideas and opinions and stomp all over our laws and traditions that peple here have kept and embraced for hundreds of years. Maybe you should do your research and open your eyes to see what really is going on.
Most countries embrace the Christians that come in because when they do- they come in actually contributing something useful.

The Catholic Church sends missionaries for the duration of the worldwide, in simple terms because it has carried out considering the fact that apostolic circumstances, relaxing the challenge Christ gave it, to "bypass forth and make disciples of all countries". each and every united states of america on earth it is at the instant Christian first gained the religion from Catholic missionaries.

Missionaries should go to other countries through the front door. They should respect other cultures. There are plenty of people waiting to hear the Gospel that no one has to put down other religions.

Well you have a very narrow mind of missionaries. I have been on 4 mission trips and on none of them did we even talk about what religion we were. We did not try and push our religion on them. If they had questions we just answered them as best we could and left it at that. To give you a better understanding about what mission work is really about why don't you go on one of them? Good luck.

As long as the country allows it, how is it wrong? We do allow it in the U.S...it is called freedom of speech and freedom of religion. If missionaries choose to serve and preach to others, God bless them in their efforts.
In fact, my brother is a missionary right now, and he is not just trying to "convert" people, he is helping them, serving them, loving them and teaching them about why they are here. I only wish there were more people willing to go and do the same.

No it's not disrespectful if it's done in the right spirit. We should never disrespect someone else's religion here or abroad. But, we can share what we have with those who are interested.
