First of all, it's really gross. Blood is an ANTI-aphrodisiac. It would be really messy and you could ruin your sheets, mattress, etc.
Seriously, I don't think there are health risks to the woman (and man) other than standard risks of getting STD's if you don't use condoms. But if you are in committed, monogamous relationship and you are both comfortable with it, then it's your business between the two of you, not anyone else.
I think that time is a good time to do a lot of snuggling and exploring new ways to please each other.

There is a chance of infection. Your body is naturally eliminating your lining in preparation for growth of another. In essence you are re introducing things into your vagina which can cause bacteria. Blood is warm and moist. A perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Some people still feel it is fine but I tend to think women should wait until they are done menstruating.

None aside from pregnancy/sti infection if you or your partner has a sti and you are having unprotected sex. Don't listen to these other posters having sex during your period is normal healthy adult sexual behavour.

That is nasty never have sex while your on your period and unprotected sex while on of your period does cause pregnancy
