No you cannot enslave your fellow man, as it's against the law, no matter what some person said thousands of years ago.

I do not think there is anything wrong with this question. Actually, y'all should give the asker a break. Atleast its well formed and you CAN ACTUALLY READ IT and understand it. I often wonder this myself. On the terms in which you're speaking, it would be wrong now b/c Jesus said obey the laws of the land. So if it wasn't illegal right now that's where the question really lies. I'm not a biblical expert but didn't Abraham or Moses or somebody lead the slaves out of Egypt through God, when God parted the Red Sea and they were in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights and ate manna and all that. If God led them to freedom, perhaps it is wrong.
Or maybe it isn't wrong but its still obviously not a good situation to be a slave so he freed them. I'm not sure I can answer your question with certainty. I'm sorry.

Jengen had it partially correct. There were two kinds of slaves in ancient times. There were the POW's, who were treated very cruely because they were unarmed and could not be killed at the time, but also can not be trusted. The second were the very poor. Those who could not find employment or afford to feed and clothe themselves. These would sell themselves into slavery for a period of time. Seven years was typical in the ancient times, but sometimes even repeatedly in the exchange for food, shelter and clothes. Mexican illegals are a good example of this kind of slavery today. Jesus did not come to free slaves as Moses did, he came to teach us the way to Heaven and how to live here on Earth that pleases God.

Enslave is a negative word to use. Maybe the right word is GUIDE or HELP or OBLIGE your fellowmen. Like, if you're an employer, you OBLIGE your employees to work for you efficiently because you're paying them to do so. That is more positive-sounding.
Also, like if you're sick, you HELP yourself by taking the right medicine so you'll feel better soon. You don't make yourself a slave to your medicine or else u'll be a drug addict. Remember that ANYTHING IN EXCESS is poison. Enslaving is indulging somebody or yourself too much. There is always a negative sound to it.
Jesus didn't free the slaves 2000 years ago because HE left the task to HIS apostles. He did his part already, it's all up to HIS apostles now to continue HIS job.

None that have owned slaves have done well!
Look at Egypt after 4000 years, there just now beginning to recover!
The US south after 100 years is still not recovered, there are places of recovery but not much, and may never recover!
Germany (WW2) 50years if they were given another 50 years they might recover!

Slavery is man-made, and that reasoning is a little like "could He make rock so big that even He can't lift it?":)
While he was at it, why didn't he just abolish poverty, sickness and war?
I can't change your mind, but I also can't make you right about this. Love, respect and compassion is what Jesus Christ is about, and you're just looking for loopholes.

In most cases spoken of [ with some exceptions ], it seems that slavery as they called it, is employment as we call it. They were to be free after seven years. People have to have livelyhood in what ever time period they are in or have been in.
