Braces work very slowly, so if they become broken there won't be an immediate effect. However, having wires out of place can be very painful and also can cause problems for your teeth if left untreated. You need to go to your orthodontist as soon as possible to have this corrected.

The case of archwire breaking is no unusual phenomenon. Visit your Orthodontist for correction. Some of today’s wires are made of "space age" materials that exert a steady, gentle pressure on the teeth, so that the tooth-moving process may be faster and more comfortable for patients. NASA originally engineered the nickel-titanium alloy.
