According to Salary.com, the average preschool teacher in the United States earns $22,000, while an average kindergarten teacher earns $45,000. However, some schools, like Gamble's, are well funded by hefty tuitions and annual auctions, resulting in better wages for the teachers. A basic explanation for the overall pay disparity may be found in the general perception of preschools. Some parents and politicians see preschool as a form of glorified daycare, and many states do not subsidize preschools. This is slowly being turned around as numerous studies show that preschools can help create better students.

Average Preschool Teacher Salary

Salaries for preschool teachers are well below the average salary for anything else. This is a HUGE issue that is being discussed in many states across the nation, but is very slow to resolution. Some states are ahead of others, so it depends on where you live.

Also, if you work for a school district, your pay will be better than if you work for a private preschool. Remember higher salaries = higher costs, which translates into higher tuition for parents who are often having difficulty paying for it already.

I would look at the website for the National Association for the Education of Young Children for stats: www.naeyc.org.

It is a very worthwhile and important job, and many of the people who work in the field do it because they see the need for quality education at a young age. But a worthy wage is important.

Good luck!

I work for a statewide early childhood initative that is working on better pay for preschool teachers, among other things.

There are a ton of websites that will give you the average salary of someone with your background .. if it states the full time pay .. just divide it in half for a part time teacher. Just put the question in yahoo or google.com Like.. salarys of teachers.. something like that .. I know where I live the starting payscale for a full-time teacher is about 40K a year . . so if you are working 50% then about 20K a year .. or $10.00 an hour. Good luck ! :)

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career.
