Also - you can't bring even bottled water or any liquid on to the plane (even if you purchased it in the airport). I don't know if southwest serves beverages on the plane though - so make sure you quench your thirst before boarding the plane.

Also - check out the complete list on the Transportation Security Administration website at http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

It all depends on where you are travelling to and from. Essentially no liquids of any type nor aerosols may be taken on board. The relevant airline website or FAA can advise you specifically however make up generall is excluded because of it's ingredients.

If it's a short trip, it will probably be less hassle to take the train, drive or take the bus, in that order. If there is a train that goes where you need to go, take it. MUCH less hassle.

If there is no train and you don't want to drive or take the bus (I don't blame you), ask yourself if it absolutely necessary to go. If you've spent a lot of money which you can't get back or if it's a family emergency or something similar, well, grit your teeth and be prepared to deal with a lot of hassle.

If you don't have to go -- don't.

Just one person's opinion.

No liquids or gels - so no toothpaste or shampoo, perfume or liquid makeup. Certain kinds of deoderant won't go through either.

If you're staying at a nicer hotel, they will furnish the shampoo & conditioner, and toothpaste on request.
