How about the skyline? It's really pretty at night. I used to go by it a lot.

The place you take pictures is not as important as the subject or the point of view. Watch for places where the light forms correctly, or where the subjects seem to speak. The pattern of doors in a hallway, or the gnarled roots of a tree in a local park. Perhaps it's the way in which a person leans into the wind as they walk down a street, or the juxtaposition of animated and inanimated objects in a given area. Do'nt look for the "Picture", look for the way in which things speak. You walk around a tree three times, you still see the tree, but get close, or walk back a bit, change your point of view, and you get an entirely different idea.

You can walk around the downtown area for days and not find the right photo....then one morning look out your own window and see something worthwhile. A good photog keep their camera not only handy, but ready to take a shot.

All over...what interests you? Some good spots: downtown architecture, Wayne State Old Main, Belle Isle, the Detroit Zoo, Heidelberg Project, casino construction, waterfront, Fort Wayne, Hamtramck, downtown railroad...

yeah they have fabulous run down shitty houses, or you can take a pic of a crime or a drug deal in action, or if you see a black person actually working, that may be a photo worth shooting

If you like to keep your camera...stay away from the ghettos.
