according to dr phil it doesn't make a difference at that point. the chances of messed up kids are only slightly higher than two strangersd meeting and having kids. my wife and i are related to eachother within the last 150 years. i got a kid and hes awesome. theres no eral problem. now between first cousins its a lot higher. i knew a lady who was one of 14 kids whose parents werefirst cousins. she was pretty messed up and she was one of the more normal ones. 11 of the kids needed specialized care. so its fine. just kick people if they think its terrible.

Your Second cousin is the child of your 1st cousin, making it like marrying a neice or nephew. marrying a cousin once removed places a barrier in the blood line.
It's accepted practise in many back-woods communiteis, and ghettos

it is a social taboo-most people will assume you grew up together or at least knowing each other and it sounds like incest. recessive genes that cause all sorts defects could seriously affect your offspring. especially if you both pass on the recessive genes. look at sickle cell anemia or diabetes. be sure to look at both of you family medical histories before having children.

It has to do with genetics. Family-inherited diseases and tendencies can be more easily transmitted that way, and you could end up with children who have congenital deformities, etc. I know of a family who did that just a few generations back.... and their children and grandchildren are still suffering with muscular dystrophy--
and WILL be forever.

I think its legal and ok to marry your cousin. If a ton of it happens in a family over time, you get double recessives and lots of medical problems.

It's a cultural stigma. Fortunately I never had to deal with the issue. I'm not related to my wife by blood.

it's ok, most of the royalty of Europe married their first cousins for the past thousand years, second cousin is no problem, screw away with reckless abandon.

because if you choose to have children, it tends to cause a greater incidence of birth defects that society has to pay for and society has given you plenty of other excellent choices to have children with.
