Just curious. I remembered a long time ago the baggers used to ask paper or plastic. I assumed that it was all switched over to plastic to save costs.

It depends on the cashier... if they want to talk to you, they'll ask. But, I know from experience (cashier at a supermarket) that the bosses don't really like to give out paper bags anymore... they're more expensive to produce than plastic, and plastic's faster and more efficient to pack. So my bosses tell us to not ask... and just assume plastic all the time... and it's up to the customer to request the paper bags.

What an odd question. Are you applying for a bagger position at your local grocery store and want to make a good impression?
Most places just go with Plastic .... Hardly ever am I given the option.. I find it nicer to bring my own bags then I do not have to deal with the barrage of plastic bags.

Depends on the store. But now days they are just assuming people want plastic. Now you have to tell them you want paper bags. It use to be the opposite. Things have sure changed in the supermarkets.

They don't really anymore, it's basically all plastic I like the plastic better than the paper though cuz it's easier to carry. They should ask though people prefer both kind.

they usually go ahead with plastic unless you ask for paper but i think it is because paper bags are more expensive. they cost the store like 8 cents a piece so i can see why they push plastic bags.

Most places around here are either automatically using plastic or they're asking "is plastic ok?" & will only use paper if specifically requested.

I prefer paper over plastic, plastic contains unhealthy chemicals

Paper bags are more expensive so they usually just give you plastic unless you ask for paper. (I used to work at a grocery store.)
