well calling and hanging up is not good to start off ... maybe he is just shy and doesnt know how to reply back give it sometime if not move on and act like u never wrote the letter he will come around

he probably didn't respond because you haven't given him enough time. give him a few more days, but if the reply doesn't come, then move on. it might be painful, but he might not like you back. please don't take him so seriously. best of luck!
