Pitbulls that showed aggression toward humans were killed because they were bred to fight dogs and other animals, and their owners did their own vet care, so wanted dogs that would not bite them. How many people really know this? They were not bred to be vicious people killers.

Yes, until about the 1970's all APBT's who showed any form of human aggression were put to sleep without a second guess on their nature... they were bred for canine and bull aggression, human aggression only bacame acceptable around the late 80's and much more so now...

Sad really, most pitts still have the instincts to never be human aggressive... but so many other blood lines (and breeds...) have been introduced which is a majority of the problem in the modern breed... they used to have a good breed standard, now it's more "if it kinda looks like a Pitt and is between 30 and 100 lbs it is a Pitt..."

It's a tradgedy...

BTW - In America, the dog with the most bite reports in this entire country is the German Shepherd Dog, not the Pitt Bull...

They weren't bred to be pet killers either. In the years when the T.V. show "Spankys Gang" was on, their dog was a pit bull, the old RCA dog was a pit bull. I care for many pit bulls and they are adorable and friendly. It's the owner who doesn't own one and care for one responsibly that cause them to have a bad rap.

That may be true but a great percentage of attacks on humans are by Pit bulls. I had a neighbor that was attacked by one and it almost killed him. I think owning Pit bulls should be illegal, or the very least the owner should be required to carry extra insurance to cover the costs.

pit bulls have a bad rep. I know they are not all bad. Unfortunately there are people who raise their dogs to be mean. Those are the only ones we hear about.

The only reason I found was because I knew a family that had a few. They informed me that it is all about if you raise them to be aggressive.

Right. Tell that one to the child in our city who had his face ripped off by a Pitbull. Two years ago, & he's still going in for painfull & expensive surgury to just try to look normal.
