He has never done anything to this kitty, but she still seems terrified of him and bites and scratches him every time he picks her up. I'd think she'd run from our 3 year old that likes to drag her around, but nope it's just my husband. Any ideas why or suggestions to fix this?

Ok -the feeding thing won't work cause my hubby is a truck driver and has an erratic schedule. Any other ideas?

Your kitty does not HATE your husband. The reason for her behaviour could be that she does not see your husband that often because he is a truck driver with strange working hours. The best way to combat this problem is to let your kitty and hubby to have time with each other and no-one else around so that they can bond together.
Hopefully this will work out for your husband.
Just like dogs, cats can tell if a person does not like them.

First, he should refrain from picking her up for a while. Second, he should avoid eye-contact with her. Third, get some treats she likes and let him feed them to her - he doesn't have to touch her, just set them where she will see/smell them; you might also be able to try letting him offer them to her while YOU are holding her and soothing her. It sounds as though she may view your husband as an intruder/stranger, and doesn't know how to respond. Since he's not there all the time, it may take time, but I think if you try the things above, she'll come around.

If it makes you and your husband feel any better, I think my cat hated me when I first got her. My boyfriend, who I lived with at the time, picked her out and was absolutely in love with her -- as she was with him. She would follow him around, sit in his lap constantly, kiss him all over his face, get excited when he would come home from work every day. But she would not let me pet her for over 2 weeks. It was so depressing. I was ready to send her right back, obviously I didn't want a pet that didn't even want to be touched by me! I even called the girl I had adopted her from and told her I didn't think I could possibly keep her, and that she hated me.
Then, slowly, my cat started to warm up to me. Would let me hold her, then she would let me brush her, then she even let me clip her nails. Now we're best friends and she sits in my lap every time I sit down (even tries to in the bathroom.. I'm not kidding), sleeps with me every night, and even sits on the shower ledge when I take showers.
There is a VERY good chance that her disliking your husband will pass with time. If my kitty loves me this much now, it can happen to anyone. Your poor husband! I know just how he feels. But give it time, and this will most likely change much more than you expect.

Maybe kitty had a bad experience with a male before it came to live with you, he just has to be patient and he could try winning it over with tasty cat treats. When he is home?

Well... this is not killing it but when ever it acts like this just take it by the neck and hold it then it will stop whatever its doing but it will take a few times and i also agree with Gerald. After you pick it up by the neck just pet it softly.

Don't feed your kitten yourself. Let your husband feed it and also in playtime, let him give it some cat food treats. Have him give it the treat it loves best.
Good luck!

Have him be the only one who feeds her. She'll come around.
