Speaking only from the point of view of the child I was, I think life was better in the 60s in many ways. We didn't have to lock our doors, house or car, at night. In the summertime we played outside until midnight or later, unsupervised and covered lots of territory. Our parents didn't worry about us every second of the day because danger, real or imagined, didn't lurk around every corner. We rode our bikes without helmets and felt the joy of the wind in our hair and if you fell off,you just cried and Mom fixed you up with Bactine. The Good Humor man came down the street a couple of times a week and milk and bread were delivered to your door. Drive-ins were a family destination every Saturday night and the playground was better than the movie. No cable TV or internet or video games so we had to use our imaginations....we read more, played more and dreamed more. You could get into the movies for 35 cents and spend the whole day if you wanted and no one "searched" your bag to see if you were bringing in outside candy. Gas,cars and houses were within the reach of nearly everyone and the future seemed bright. High school was scary but only because you worried about where and with whom you would sit for lunch. No guns or weapons were used or needed. In other words,we had less materially but the memories and the fun we had are worth so much more.

The sixties , while not as gentile as the 50s.Produced Good and Evil. We questioned our Government, which caused change. adults didn't have to cross the street when a group of kids stood on the corner, No aids , the birth of the birth control pill. Hippies, Flower children,The age of Aquarius. Long hair. School was controlled by teachers, no one ever shot up a school. Also the beginning of drugs. Not nearly to the scale of today.

I never knew of anyone that was robbed , their homes or person.not that it didn't happen, I never knew any victims.

Gang fights very seldom ended in death. There has never been a threat like the Islamic terrorist. We danced in the streets and sang on the corners.

We were Americans all.

Born in 1965, but I recall as a small child never being afraid to go to the candy store alone, playing outside for hours and hours without contacting my mom, spending most of my time with family and friends. I think things were better then, but now is ok too. Our lives are what we make them. Choose a good path for a good life.

Better and more sex, I have heard anyway for most people. No AIDS yet so safer. Also, the authentic living and really being whoever you were sounds great. I was born in 1963 so I don't really know.

I think the drugs and free living messed up some people's lives. Craeted confusion for their kids too.

I was but a kid back then.I agree with everyone else,it was a different time then.My parents thought nothing of leaving the front and back doors unlocked.there wasn't a murder in my home town till yrs after I left.
I remember as a kid playing outside late on a summer night with other neighborhood kids going freely form yard to yard to yard. Not a care in the world.
Time has changed me, and life as well.Just because i was a kid , i'd say it was better then.(who doesn't wanna be a kid again?)

It only looks better.

people ignore the riots and student demonstrations and the clashes over the draft.

And we must forget the struggles with the Civil Rights Movement and Freedom Summer

A very turbulent time
