Yes all the time. She likes playing in the water. Get her a kiddie pool. Two water bowls may help also.

We have had the same problem with our puppy, we also have a 4 month old German Shepard female. Although it can be a little inconvenient we bought her a smaller bowl until she learned to keep her paws out. We also started using a raised food and water dish which is elevated. You can find them at any pet store. Hope this helped!

She is behaving normally, assuming that she's otherwise healthy. Many puppies (and a few adult dogs, too) attack/play with their water, presumably because it's shiny and it moves in funny ways.

To stop your pup from doing this (or at least, to slow her down a bit), add a bunch of ice cubes to her water bowl. Either fill the bowl with nothing but ice, or dump a bunch of ice into the existing water. Either way, the dog is less likely to "dig" into the bowl; and even if she does, it's easier for you to pick up pieces of ice than to mop up all that water!

She'll get all the liquid she needs from chewing on the ice, and it won't hurt her at all (if dogs do get "brain freeze", would they even notice?).

I have a dog that does that as well....I think it's just "fun for them." I have to refill the water over and over. My dog also lays in (or across, as she is big) the bowl after digging out the water, like she is trying to cool herself on the stainless steel bowl!

I also have a shepard, and on occasions she will do the very same thing!! i dont know why she does it, but when she is done, the whole floor, wall and everything else is sopping wet. I think she does it just to watch me have to mop everything up lol

Water...puppy...yes it's play time.Just don't be so fast in filling it back up,wait just a little while. And I have to say something to Paul G,if dogs only see black and white why does my Yorkie bring me the right ball if I say yellow ball or red ball etc? The balls are the same size.

all dog see in black and white only or shaces of gray
they can only determine colors as shades of gray
so sometimes they got to use other sences to determine things
maybe they can not detect the water by sight?
so they rely of touch but does not understand the bowl concept?
but they still drink out of the bowl right?

I had that problem and started watering her in a bundt pan..with the cone in the middle..Problem solved.
I found mine at the thrift shop..there were several of them, and I chose the one made for a microwave, as it is of a kind of plastic stuff and heavy enough to stay put on the floor.

I think its just like a kid with a puddle, they just play in it. My lab loves water and lies in the pond when its hot then jumps out and runs like a mad thing. No more fish in the pond now.
