there are 3 FDA approved methods of thawing.
1. in the fridge
2. as part of the cooking process (i.e. microwave or putting it in the oven frozen.. probably not a good idea with such a large thing..)
3. under cold RUNNING water. Do not sit the turkey in standing water. You don't have to leave it running very hard, just a trickle. That will keep it safe and thaws faster than standing water too!

the fastest way would be to fill your tub, or large sink, up with cold water and submerge the turkey in that. it is not the safest way, though. to prevent bacteria from forming, it is best to thaw it in the fridge for a couple days (depending on the size of the turkey).

Place the turkey in the sink, still in its original packaging. Set a slow stream of cold water over the turkey. The movement of the water transfers heat faster than any other method. If you live in a drought area, please don't waste the water. Place the frozen turkey in the refridgerator 24-48 hours ahead of time. That is the safest.

One way is to keep it covered in a tub of warm water. Another faster way is to put it in your microwave (if it will fir) and put on a defrost cycle. Actually, you can combine both these methods if the water doesn't do it fast enough for you.
