He's always spoiled his son, but lately it is beginning to show. The boy is about 16 months old now, I guess, and he pitches fits, cries, and has to get his own way about everything!!
This is all fine and dandy until it's my turn to watch him. I don't want him just running around getting into stuff. Just the other day he turned his milk over ON PURPOSE and everyone got mad at ME for telling him not to do that anymore!!
I love the kid and I don't want to stop watching him anymore, but how do I deal with his tantrums while maintaining a good relationship with the parents??

LOL I know most people don't want to hear this, but the kid needs a good spanking... Tell your friend that you value his friendship and that you want the best for him and his child. Tell him that his child is a great kid but really needs some disipline. Let him know that you like watching his son, however when you watch him, he must obey your rules and that you will use your best judgement with him, but you are no longer going to watch him if he (your friend) does not trust you and respect your decisions when you are watching him...

This is NOT normal. You need to talk to the parents and let them know that if their son is in your care, you will discipline him and spell out what behavior is and is not acceptable and the actions you intend to take. There's the real possibility that you will not be asked to sit for the child again, which is a shame since he could obviously use your guidance. But you can't raise another person's child and most likely you'll be unable to convince the parents that they are doing a real disservice to their son by letting him behave like a brat.

Who got mad at you? You were watching the kid in your house and you have certain rules, like don't purposely dump the milk over. That's simple enough. Hold your ground. If the kid won't listen to you and your friend won't let you set rules in your house then tell your friend that you can't watch him when she asks, she isn't that good a friend anyway if she is going to let her son destroy your house, on purpose.

My first impulse about the leaving the shop ingredient is that you shouldn't. It kind of means he remains controlling what you do with his habit and it truly is honestly inconveniencing you because you may want to diminish short getting what you went in there for. It motives embarrassment, yet i might want to ignore about his tantrum till he settles down and then communicate to him about and why it truly is not any longer proper to expose that you're the only on authentic of issues.

He is testing his limits. It is normal, not him being a brat. He is also testing out cause and effect - if I turn this this way, what will happen? ergo the spilt milk.

by telling his parents you won't watch the child if they don't respect your limits.

this is normal
don't get angry, tell him why it is not appropriate, undo whatever it was, ignore him if it results in a tantrum.
