You will get a combat Ribbon once you go to Iraq. Usually it takes about 2 months to be in Iraq before you can officially optain a combat ribbon. (When I say Iraq, I mean Iraq, Affganistan, etc....) My husband is in Iraq, and he has been there for 2 months, and just received his Combat Ribbon. Good luck in your career in the Marines! =)

First off if your only motive to join the Marines is to get a CAR (combat action ribbon) you might re-think joining. Those people who are in such a hurry to get to combat usually don't make it. And if you are with Arty you would usually have to be a FO (forward observer) they are attached to the grunts ( God's favorite human beings) to get into "combat". But if you want to pull a string that is cool too. Requirements for a CAR you have to have enemy fire within 2000 meters and return fire. Or there is this new thing about IED's, but I don't think you want to go that way. Good on you for wanting to join that Corps though.
