I was raised Protestant and have been Catholic for many years. I don't think that the churches really believe differently, they just stress different aspects.
Of course we can refuse God's gift of grace. The Bible tells us that. But that doesn't mean the gift is not still offered. So really, both are true. If we refuse it, we lose it through our own lack of faith. It is not God's refusal, but our own.

If you have been born again in the Biblical sense which is what the term saved is referring to than you cannot be unborn. However, there are many who claim they are "saved" and yet there is no change in their life. Being a Christan is a day by day journey accomplished by the choices we make. Sometimes we choose the things that lead us closer to God and sometimes we do not. It's all about choices. Many of the differences between Catholics and Baptist have nothing to do with God and a lot to do with man. They are both Christian.

I am Christian.I am parts of every religion with the accounts of a good, eternal, loving, and understanding god.
When I felt the change occur in me I realized that the salvation Jesus taught me is one that cannot be thrown away, when at a certain level of spiritual exceptance and total love of God there is no turning back. There is not a wanting to hide from my salvation. There is definitely back-sliding but the Wisdom of His Presence never goes away fully.
I also have realized that being a saved soul does not happen overnight but is earned in a series of trials, simplicities of spirit, and askings of the Creator. For some people it's harder to except themselves as rebirthed into an Angel, unfortunately, for some they never quite understand who their God is or how deeply He inside of them dwells and so they just mouth the words of salvation without the faith for its completency or room for their own spiritual adjustments.
May the Creator of Life Be With You Always......

If salvation needs to be accepted by the cross, it can be lost by utilitizing the gift in a selfish manner.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that salvation is permanent. One sin separates from God (Isaiah 59:2), if this is sin is not forgiven and under the blood, then salvation is no longer available to them.
Sorry, Baptists, you have it wrong. all this does is give you an excuse to use grace as a cover up for wrongdoings.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.

That depends upon the requirements for salvation. Based upon this verse-
Jhn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Belief in jesus christ is the pre-requisite to salvation. So, the question would be, can a person stop believing something that they previously considered to be true. According to the bible, "knowledge may pass away" and beleif seems to be based upon knowledge.

I have a Lutheran background but I am currently attending regularly non-denominational Christian church.
I walked away from God, and if I did not come back...I know I would not have made it to to the Father's house. I believe that you can lose it and throw it away, even if you do not know it.

I think this is a really good question, I'm not sure of the answer because I went to several different churches and have become quite confused about things. I grew up methodist, but as an adult went to an assembly of God church. I became disenchanted with AoG, for private reasons. Now I wonder my soul's fate. I just go back to John 3:16. WHOSOEVER believe in Him shall have EVERLASTING life. It doesnt say...except backsliders.

I am also Baptist. I don't have the verses right now, but the Christ says He giveth unto them everlasting life. Also, He said No man can pluck them from my father's hand. I believe that it can not be lost or given away. Hope that helps some.

This is a really good question.
I would think that if a person decided to reject God (Jesus) after having a relationship with Him, God would be saddened by losing one of his "sheep" but would accept it. This deliberate choice would be considered free will on the person's part.
I am a Christian and attend a United Church.
