practice!

It is more than just practice but knowing what to practice...

slant-kind of like italics, that all the letters tilt the same

size- all the letters are the same size

spacing- that your letters aren't "too fat" or too skinny

connections- that when you connect your "w" and "v", ect. they aren't too far away from the letter you're connecting it to...

I also had an aunt who was an architect and she would write using a ruler as a guide...she'd write the sentence and then go back and add her "tails" for the g's and p's ect...

Beyond that, your handwriting is yours...these are the things that make it look neat and if you practice, it'll improve...
There are also writing excersises that help improve your control of the pencil...one it making circles that overlap each other that touch the top line and bottom --staying between the lines...it's harder than it looks...you start doing the excersises slowly and accurately, then as you do them, eventually, you should be able to do them rather quickly... There is one that is slanted lines up and down that is kind of similar to a cursive "w" over and over again- same idea, touching but yet between the lines...HTH!

I don't know. I've been writing for years and still can't write very well. One of the problems is that when I was in grade school, the teachers would make you change hands if you were trying to write with the left hand. That happened to me...I'm not saying if I were a left-handed writer I would do any better than with the right hand, I just feel the teachers should have left us alone instead of making us change.
