Buy a battery tester. It is more accurate than a plain voltmeter, as it tests the battery under load.
If you need to know NOW, put one end of the battery on your lower lip and the other end on your upper lip. If it is pretty much dead, doing this won't bother you at all. If it still has some juice left, you'll feel it.

Lithium batteries that are used in low current demand circuits, such as memory back up circuits in computers and in some motorcycle audio systems generally last at least 15 to 20 years.
Higher load current demands as in cell phones and digital cameras, cuts them down to around 7 to 10 years usage. People that abuse them by improper charging them may only get 3 to 5 years out of them.

tery charging battery, then playing a slide show in the camera, and timing how long it lasts before shutdown.
test again after recharge. if storing a long time, keep in Discharged state..
remember lithium batteries are dangerous if abused.

What are you using it for? If it is used for your laptop when your using yout battery for your laptop it should tell you.
