Contacts are not allowed. If you are wondering why: 1) you won't have time to take them out at night or put them in in the morning 2) what happens when something gets in your eye? oh excuse me we have to stop training i have something in my eye? 3) gas chamber it burns your eyes enough...oh god i don't want to imagine the pain if gas got in your contacts
It's all to protect you. You should wear your glasses. I didn't wear mine everyday, only when firing my weapon and no one really noticed.

For basic -- just wear the glasses you are issued due to your eyesight -- you will NEED the safety Lenses and the fact that they are easily replaced if you do have them fall off your face doing something physical (and they get destroyed) will be a blessing.
I can tell you over the years I was in the Military, the glasses styles have changed -- and for the better - - In some of my last years on Active Duty -- I did have a choice of frames from the Base Optician -- and that did mean that they were able to fit in to the Civilian World a bit better. There was always the option to take my prescription to a Civilian Provider to get Glasses, but I did have to have the Safety Lenses (the ones that are crack resistant), and I did wear these Civilian Source Glasses during the duty day. Contacts, well, I did not wear them, basically because my position required a LOT of reading and number crunching, and by the end of the 1st hour of doing that -- Contacts got very dry and UNCOMFORTABLE.

You would have to wear the glasses when in boot camp. I'm not sure which service you would be entering but any basic training will require good eyesight at times for weapons training and such. Also, no contacts for the gas chamber. The styles they have now days are way better than the "birth control" glasses that used to be worn. Definitely ask your recruiter, but it's a sure bet you can't stop training to put your glasses on. My suggestion: wear the glasses, and when you graduate change to the contacts. Good luck!

During BCT, you'll have to wear the BC's or "birth controls". You don't have an option. However, depending on the post you do your BCT at, you may end up with some of the modern frames. My hubby is currently a Drill Sergeant and alot of the recruits are getting the modern frames. They have quite a nice selection now. In fact, he wears glasses and we haven't purchased our own frames in about 3 years because of the styles to choose from. I also suggest that you keep and wear the glasses. You might THINK you can see, but for the safety of your fellow soldiers, you need to wear them. You're supposed to have your buddies back and if you're not fully seeing the situation, you're not there for them. That's when things happen, so just wear the glasses all the time.
Good luck!!

You are required to use those glasses while in basic training (Army) if you need them. If I were you I'd carry them in a pocket...you'll have several to choose from...and use them if/when needed. Once in your AIT school, rules are relaxed somewhat and you can get by with wearing contacts. However your civilian glasses might not pass the test. After you are at your duty station, the military does have a dress code and by then you will know if your civilian glasses are going to meet the standard or if you need new ones. Good luck.

The 'BC's" or "Teddy Bear" glasses are standard issue in Basic training. You are not required to wear them 24/7 but they are the only eye glasses that you will be allowed to wear during Basic. Wear them when you need them & take them off when you don't. Once out of Basic you can wear almost any style of eye glasses that you choose to, even contacts.

First I want to say I'm not in the military but let me make an observation.
I've worn glasses since I was twelve years old. I'm now forty-two. When I first wore them my eye sight was 20/40 (they have since grown to about 20/1000!). I thought I could see well. The day I got my new glasses I walked outside the doctor's office. I asked my mom where did that come from? She asked what I was talking about. I told her about the billboard two blocks away. She told me it was always there.
So here you are in the military. You've completed basic. And are now in battle somewhere. You choose where. You think you can see alright without glasses but fail to see someone shooting at you. Think of the consequences of that.
WEAR THE GLASSES.

You would have to wear those glasses in bootcamp, or basica training, whatever you want to call it. But it doesn't matter, since a lot of military men and women have to wear those anyways, so you will fit right in! Plus, once you get into the fleet, you can choose whatever glasses that you would like to wear. Except, they can't be pink, or whatever... Also, yeah, you cant wear contacts during boot.

Being drawn to women in glasses isn't unusual. Being attracted fullyyt to women in glasses is unusual. the area is that you've forgotten about Undercover Skanks. ladies that placed on outsized sun shades to conceal the very undeniable reality that they basically are not that fantastically.

Yes, you would have to wear the glasses if your eyes are that bad. You would especially have to wear them on the Gun range.
