Ok, what's wierder?
The Mormons think John Smith found some metal tablets and a magic stone that could translate them. That when translating them he had to hide behind a curtain, and that the story changed because an angel told him so.
OR
That a sci-fi writer from the 50s came up with a way to make you get rid of your body and turn into a "thetan" (a spiritual being without a body that's been reincarnated a number of times), and you can improve yourself ("audit") through an "E-meter" (elctrocuting device), and that psychology is just a bunch of bunk?
Which one do YOU think is wierder?

All religions are equally weird.

Judaism: Their god kills a bunch of people then says Jews are the chosen people, so they have to suffer until he comes back for them. Really weird.

Christianity: God gets sick of people killing animal blood to appease him, so he has his son killed temporarily to appease himself, but only if his followers really believe. Even weirder.

Islam: God dictates to an illiterate who dictates to someone what that god supposedly said. They believe that people came from blood clots. Extremely weird.

Latter Day Saints: An angel named Moroni translates a couple gold plates for Joseph Smith. (Hmm, shouldn't they be called Morons, instead of Mormons, since they got all this stuff from someone named Moroni?) Hmm, ultra weird.

Scientologists: A science fiction writer invents a religion. People actually believe that they are exorcizing alien ghosts from people. Super ultra weird.

Paganism: They believe whatever is on the Wiccan best-seller book list. They like to play with herbs and candles. Really weird.

And there are others, but they're weird, too.

Mormons or Scientologists? I don't think I know enough about either to make a decent opinion on which is weirder. Although, from what I do know, Scientology seems a bit strange. If you like to read, I recommend this :http://www.ecentral.com/members/skeller/ It's a letter from a father written to his daughter who is a Scientologist. It chronichles quite a few years with his opinions on how Scientology affected her and her brother. It's a bit long but it's a really good read.

To the first answerer nondesricpt:
"Paganism: They believe whatever is on the Wiccan best-seller book list. They like to play with herbs and candles. Really weird."

Not all Pagans are Wiccans and alot of them don't even incorporate any Wiccan practices into their faith.

Though I tend to think all religion is so much horse dung, some religions stand out as especially stupid.

I think what makes the decision for me is something L Ron Hubbard once said to fellow writer John Campbell- "I'm going to invent a religion that's going to make me a fortune. I'm tired of writing for a penny a word."

That says it all doesn't it?

The imagination of con men is really amazing whether it be Smith, Hubbard, or Paul of Tarsus and the religions they invented are weird and unbelievable whether, LDS (mormons), scientology, or christianity but then there are always a lot of gullible people who cannot face the reality of ther own existence and mortality.

This is to almost everyone that has answered this question.

If you looked at your own beliefs, using the same rational as you do when looking at the beliefs of others, what conclusions would you reach? The hardest thing to do, is to look critically at what you believe, and judge it without bias. I spent years and years finally getting out of this trap, and still, every now and then get caught up in it. Conditioning of the human mind is incredibly hard to erase.

Joseph Smith's religion is tops as far as I'm concerned. How you can expect someone to believe you found a pair of giant glasses that allowed you to read the so-called Egyptian writings is beyond me. Joseph sure could spin a yarn

I have to agree with Paul S...we all believe supposedly "ridiculous" things.

Keep in mind that none of you know what you're talking about. Unless you're a Mormon or Scientologist...none of you really know what each religion entails and so are in NO place to judge. You dont even have all the facts.

Be careful of your assumptions. heh...as they say..."To assume is to make an *** out of u and me."

So folks, I recommend everyone get their facts (all of them) and then "vote" on which religion is "weirder".
If the only way to get all the facts is to convert to each religion...then so be it. Until then, dont pretend to know that which you dont.

Or how about that crazy religion that , every year to celebrate the birth of there saviour, they pretend that a fat saint in a red suit breaks in to your home with the intention of gifting the good and coaling the bad......
then to remember the death and resurection of the same man, they pretend a GIANT RABBIT also pulls a B&E on your home, this time to leave candy and hard boiled, painted eggs of all things.
thats pretty wierd to me...
