I have documents and want to convert them to PDF format. I am pretty sure that this is doable, but I am wondering if there is a free software that allows me to create the PDF's.

Adobe Acrobat is best, buts its spendy .....

However, you can find freeware and shareware programs to create PDF files (which is what you need).

This one is open source and free:

More freeware and shareware:

You can create them online here:
https://createpdf.adobe.com/

Hope this all helps.

What the hell would you want to convert a file to pdf for? The ONLY reason they exist is because files are scanned into a pdf format so someone doesnt have to type the info in! I.E.....your in your office and you receive a typewritten letter in the mail. You want to send it to 27 other people and you dont want to manually type it to get it in your computer so you scan it in your scanner, it has now been scanned and is no longer in a text format! The letters you see are now a picture! GET IT? If the document is already typed, dont bother with pdf. converting it to a pdf file merely turns it into a picture of your original document! It takes forever to download and the file size will be 10 times bigger! Just send the original text file!

Nothing free that is legal that I know of. Adobe owns the rights to Acrobat that would make you a pdf (portable document file) and its not a cheap program to buy ($299).

You can create PDF files with one simple click in Open Office.

Open Office is an office suite (much like Microsoft Office) except it is FREE.

Others people will tell you that you have to have Adobe to do this, but it is simply not true... Open Office will do it with no problems and it's 100% legal.

You can look it over and download it at: http://www.openoffice.org/

Assuming you are using MS Windows. Download Open Office, an MS Office compatible suite. Go to openoffice.org for download. It is free and can produce pdf files. OOo is also Linux compatible.

Here is some free software that will allow you to do this:
http://www.primopdf.com/

What it does is it sets up a fake printer on your system. When you "print" to this printer, it takes what you printed and turns it into a PDF file. So you can use it with any program that will print, just make sure to choose the fake printer as your printer before printing.
