I am curious to see what other parents expect from thier children ranging in age from 5-8. What chores if any do they have and what is done as discipline if they don't do their chores? I'm having difficulty with my little ones not wanting to do their chores lately. It is becoming a problem and I would really appreciate any advice. They use to do them with ease and without hesitation. Now... they seem to be rebeling and I need to figure out what to do quickly before it really gets out of hand. Thank you for your answers and God bless!

They should be able to clean their rooms...help clear the table, set the table, dust and vacuum.

Make a chart of chores...give them rewards for doing their chores..

If they don't do their chores then remove a privilege.

I had a step son (although older, he was immature for his age) that we used to count "that's one"........then "that's two"...and if by three he didn't do as asked he would be put in time out.

You have to be firm and consistent. If you aren't consistent then they learn thy can push you and get their way.

Our kids are expected to make their beds daily, and they have a chore list that includes two chores a day ie- taking out the garbage, cleaning bathroom , tiding bedrooms, tiding their stuff in the living room . The "rule" is after school. Doesn't always happen that way. I'm not so consistant on the dicipline for not doing them, but giving an allowance for chores and then not rewarding it for chores not done might help you, kids like money,

That is a little young for so many chores, school has lots of responsibilities for very little ones unlike when we as parents were that age...and all the other things we sign them up for like sports etc....they may very well be tired. But if they did their chores before it could be because there was no school and they were less tired...ease up on your demands let young children have free play...I am a child specialist and see too many children being stressed for no good reasons....yes discipline is vital but small steps....

I have a 5yr old daughter and we just recently began enforcing that she clean her room and keep it clean. I think that a 5yr old shouldn't have a list of chores. Most of the stuff she does is voluntary except the room cleaning. She usually wants to help and I encourage her to help. Try complimenting when a chore gets done and during the process of completing the chore. If they refuse, punish. ie: no T.V, or no playing outside

If they don't do their chores and you know the CAN do them (not too young, etc.) but they won't, then start taking things away. No going outside, and while they are inside, remove the xbox/nintendo/whatever, the computer if they use it, and no TV.

Boredom is a good motivator.

I don't let mine push my buttons too long...and then they feed off each other. All I have to do is take away something they like, or they have to sit it out 1 minute for each year of their age ! I rarely have to spank, but I will !
