I'm not sure what software is best.....so far I've seen Windows slideshow and it seems simple to use, but I'm not sure if there's something better out there.

I do it all the time. Roxio media suite and choose make a sliteshow. You select pictures and paste you add music and you burn after you name you name your project. then it jumps you into a theme program where you select the theme eg wedding and add title. Really cool with cool transition windows from pic to pic. you will amaze your friends.

Try Irfanview..I am using it for a slideshow for my high school reunion and it's freeware that's easy to use.
